This project to expand a farm and its residence on the Verona hills is finally taking shape.
BRIEF PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The project first involved expanding the existing building on both sides with reinforced concrete structures and foundations and predalles slab floors, increasing the initial floor area from approximately 120 sqm to the current 260 sqm.
The existing upper floor was completely demolished and an XLAM wooden house was rebuilt over a large area of approximately 240 sqm.
MATERIALS USED
100mm, 3-layer XLAM wooden panels were used for the load-bearing structures and glued laminated timber for the roof deck.
The client imposed strict limits regarding indoor air pollution, and the overall design philosophy aims to minimize and, where possible, eliminate products capable of releasing harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
The correlation between VOCs and the onset of allergies and irritations, both pulmonary and dermal, is well known, so much so that starting in the mid-1970s, the term “sick building syndrome” began to be used in the United States.
The choice of the product best suited to satisfy the client was made following a comparative analysis of the adhesives used by XLAM manufacturers for bonding the boards. Although all panels on the market are below legal limits for harmful substance emissions, the range within which products can fall is still wide.
Relying on experienced designers who, knowing adhesives and bonding techniques, can propose the most suitable materials is the key to ensuring the air quality inside your home.
Attention was also paid to the choice of material for the roof construction: glued laminated timber.
We chose to use short supply chain wood from the forests of Val di Fiemme, well-known among industry professionals for the excellent mechanical and aesthetic qualities of its timber.
Now that the XLAM wooden house is complete, we are starting all the finishing works.
