PROJECT SUMMARY
The project involves the construction of an extension using wood and straw structures for an existing building.
The project involves the ground floor extension of a building with access to a mezzanine on the first floor.

STRUCTURAL MODEL
The foundation structures are of the inverted beam type and are constructed on a layer of cellular glass gravel to ensure a “warm slab” effect.
The curbs are cast inside XPS insulated formwork to minimize thermal bridging.
The superstructure is constructed using timber frames with adequately compressed straw bales placed inside.

The frames, given the slenderness of the walls arranged on 2 levels, are designed with some bays braced with steel tie-rods.
The tie-rods have appropriate tensioners that were installed after placement.

The roof slab is of the double-pitched type and constructed with laminated timber structures.
The thrusting roof required the installation of a steel truss with steel rod and “forks” for connection to the rafters.
