Timber building extension with LVL laminated veneer lumber coffered ceiling

, ,
PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project consists of the extension of a villa located in the hilly area of Upper Bergamo with an LVL coffered slab.
The extension involved the creation of large windows on the valley side and structural walls on the mountain side and adjacent to the building.

The roof slab is a coffered type made of LVL laminated veneer lumber.

The entire project was completed, for the visible parts, using Q-panels and laminated veneer lumber beams from the company BauBuche.

VERTICAL STRUCTURES

The vertical load-bearing structures were constructed with timber frame load-bearing walls both on the mountain side and adjacent to the property.

On the other two sides, which are completely glazed, a single LVL laminated veneer lumber pillar was installed, supporting a cantilever beam that holds the orthogonally warped slab.

All walls were internally clad with BauBuche Q-type laminated veneer lumber panels.

ROOF SLAB

The architectural requirement was to have a coffered ceiling “proportioned” to the dimensions of the intervention.

Given the significant live loads (intensive green roof) and snow loads, we ruled out the glulam solution because it would have required excessively “bulky” sections.

We chose to use LVL laminated veneer lumber beams combined with a top closing panel, also in LVL.

The result is a coffered ceiling with beam sections of 5×32 cm.
The aesthetic result is certainly very well-proportioned and interesting.
