PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The project involves the regeneration of an industrial building into a B&B through the use of steel and wood.
The existing building, approximately 250 sqm in plan, housed an auto repair shop.
The design concept by architects Matteo and Marco Arfellini involved the conversion of the space with the creation of a complex of rooms and functional areas arranged around 2 light wells.
Openings were made in the roof slab and fully glazed steel frames were installed to generate internal air and light supply.

FLAT LAMINATED TIMBER FLOORS
One of the major challenges of the project was to create two levels within the existing space.
It was therefore necessary to find a technical solution that would ensure the possibility of minimizing the thickness of the floor slab.
We proposed to the client the use of flat laminated timber floors.
Unlike CLT, the entire section is optimized and therefore allows for significant reductions in thickness.

DESIGN ASSIGNMENT
Fornale Engineering was commissioned for the design of the steel and wood structures of the intervention:
- design of new reinforced concrete foundation structures;
- design of steel structures in elevation;
- design of “flat” laminated timber floor.
