PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The project consists of the construction of an industrial timber warehouse with a timber frame structure.
The building has a square floor plan with sides of approximately 20 m, for a total area of about 400 m².
The structure was calculated to have an R60 fire resistance rating.

VERTICAL STRUCTURES
The vertical load-bearing structures were designed with timber frame walls featuring OSB on one side and a wood closing panel on the other.
The studs are made of glulam with an 8×20 cm section and a height of approximately 5 m.
To ensure the fire stability of the building, given that the wood-based structural cladding will not be plated, internal diagonals were provided within the walls.

ROOF SLAB
The roof deck is constructed with glulam beams.
The main ridge beams have a 24×80 cm section and are made of GL28h timber, while the wall plates have a 20×88 cm section.
The structure is a thrusting system, with the ridge beams acting as rafters and the wall plates in tension.
The connections are subject to heavy loads; the axial forces of the ridge beams are around 750 kN.
The concealed plates were modeled with their actual stiffness at time 0 and infinite time to obtain the real stresses in the elements.

PROFESSIONAL ASSIGNMENT
Fornale Engineering was commissioned to:
- executive structural design and related technical drawings;
- CAD/CAM construction design with production of .bvn files;
- fire safety design for R60 structures;
- preparation of cutting lists for glulam beams and hardware.
