Grezzana timber school
AWARD OF INTEGRATED CONTRACT

Fornale Engineering, in a joint venture with Studio Settanta7 and Sistema Group, won the tender for the design of the timber school for the Municipality of Grezzana.

The joint venture was awarded the contract for the final design, detailed design, and construction supervision for the construction of the new school complex.

PROJECT SUMMARY

The engineering firm Fornale Engineering handled the structural design of the entire project.

The school covers a floor area of approximately 935 m² and spans 3 levels for a total of 2,805 m².

There is a double-height area that houses a gymnasium.

The cantilevered floor above is made of steel and accommodates workshop classrooms.

The entire superstructure and floors are made of CLT timber, better known in Italy as cross laminated timber CLT.

FOUNDATION STRUCTURES

Raft foundations with a thickness of 40 cm were constructed.

For the subsequent installation of the cross laminated timber CLT timber walls, we provided reinforced concrete curbs.

SUPERSTRUCTURE

The superstructures are made with 5-layer CLT timber panels with thicknesses ranging from 100-120-140 mm.

Close to the north slope, we designed a Berlin-type micropile wall for soil retention.

R60 fire resistance is guaranteed by the presence of Type F gypsum board cladding.

INTERMEDIATE FLOORS and ROOF SLABS

The intermediate floors are made with 7-layer cross laminated timber CLT slabs with a thickness of 240 mm, while for the roof slab, 5-layer cross laminated timber CLT panels with a thickness of 180 mm were used.

The floor above the gymnasium is made with a steel beam frame and overlying 7-layer CLT timber panel with a thickness of 240 mm.
