PROJECT SUMMARY
The project involved the final and executive structural design and structural construction supervision of the new CLT wood museum named “Davanti a Villa Emma” in Nonantola, MO.
The museum has a footprint that fits within a 20×51 m rectangle and is a single-story building containing exhibition and technical-administrative spaces.

Outside, there is a canopy along the perimeter with both glazed and transparent sections. Wooden slats are installed along the entire perimeter on the soffit of the canopy to provide solar shading.
The exterior facade is clad with heat-treated Siberian larch wood slats.

STRUCTURAL MODEL
The building was modeled using FEM software, incorporating the non-linearities of the connection systems, as the area where it is located has relatively high seismicity.

MATERIALS USED
The structure is built with CLT wood panels for the vertical walls and glulam timber beams for the roof structure.
The walls consist of 100 mm thick 5-layer CLT panels, except for the internal museum space walls, which are 160 mm thick and 5-layer.
The roof structure features 12×32/71 cm glulam beams, with additional steel primary beams where necessary.

The external canopies have a steel structure with IPE200 and HEA240 profiles.
Inside, there is a suspended ceiling with exposed wooden slats, while the internal load-bearing “fins” have been left exposed to be available for future exhibition setups.
The structure has an R60 fire resistance rating.
PROFESSIONAL ASSIGNMENT
For this project we were assigned the following tasks:
- final and executive design of the CLT and glulam structures;
- final and executive design of the reinforced concrete foundation works;
- operational construction supervision of the structures.
