AWARD OF INTEGRATED CONTRACT
Fornale Engineering, in a temporary grouping of companies (RTP) with Studiosettanta7 and Alvit srl, has been awarded the integrated contract for the executive design and construction of the nursery school to be built using CLT in Salionze, VR.

PROJECT SUMMARY
The engineering firm Fornale Engineering handled the structural design of the entire project.
The school covers an area of approximately 750 sqm and is a single-story building.
A “chimney” corridor, approximately 6.5 m high, stands out in elevation, connecting the classroom block and the canteen block.
This is internally lined with cork to recreate a forest environment for the children.
FOUNDATION STRUCTURES
We managed the design of the reinforced concrete foundation structures.
Inverted beam foundations were planned, with filling provided by a ventilated crawl space composed of prefabricated polyethylene modules.
Reinforced concrete upstand curbs were provided for the installation of the CLT walls.

SUPERSTRUCTURE
The superstructures are constructed with 3-layer CLT panels, 120 mm thick.
The 6.5 m high connecting space is also made of CLT wood.
Openings were created at various heights to ensure that even the smallest children have a view of the outdoor space.
Internal cladding with plasterboard sheets was implemented to ensure R60 fire resistance.

ROOF FLOORS
The roof decks are of the low-slope type, featuring two large openings corresponding to winter gardens.
For the classroom and canteen blocks, they were designed with glulam beams and double planking for bracing.
In the atrium area, they were instead constructed using CLT panels with a visible finish.
The fire resistance of the glulam structures was ensured by oversizing the load-bearing sections.
In the atrium, however, as both fire resistance and reaction to fire were required, intumescent paints were used.
