Construction work on the new CLT wood school in Grezzana, province of Verona, is proceeding swiftly.

In recent months, as structural works supervision, we have handled various preparatory activities for the construction of the new wood school.

We began with the strip-out phases of the existing building and its demolition.

During demolition, an unforeseen situation emerged at the existing foundation level, which led us to redesign the foundation structures.

Before proceeding with the excavation of the area, two micropile “Berlin walls” were constructed.

One was built near the existing school building and is of the anchored type.

The other, directly at the boundary, was designed with an inclined diagonal bracing, as it was not possible to use anchors in the ground.

The excavation phases then continued down to the design level.

The backfilling phases, carried out in steps, were followed with great care to carefully assess the compaction state of the soils together with the necessary plate load tests.

The foundation blinding concrete was then poured, followed by the raft foundations and the subsequent void former system with overlying concrete slab.

We are now ready to supervise the installation work of the building’s CLT wood structures.
