CLT building Verona

The construction site has been completed, where we were involved as structural designers for the construction project of 2 three-story CLT wooden buildings in Verona.

PROJECT SUMMARY

The project consists of the construction of 2 three-story buildings with a load-bearing CLT timber structure in Verona.

First, the reinforced concrete basement of approximately 500 m² was constructed, designated for garages and storage rooms, divided into 2 sections corresponding to the units above.

Above the precast slab, the two CLT buildings were constructed, each approximately 120 m² in plan.

Both buildings were constructed in CLT by 2 different contractors. We designed and verified the structures to ensure alignment with the mechanical resistance of the products used in both cases, both for CLT and hardware. CLT panels from different suppliers were used, as well as different hardware suppliers.

The elevation walls were constructed with CLT panels installed on concrete plinths, as were the elevator shafts.

The floors were constructed with glued laminated timber beams and an overlying composite concrete slab.

The stairwells were constructed entirely in CLT in one building, while in the other the client chose to use a prefabricated staircase.

The roof floors were constructed in spruce glued laminated timber.

In one of the two CLT buildings in Verona, a tile roofing system was used, while in the other a standing seam metal sheet was chosen.

Given the mechanical and electrical system choices, coordination with the systems engineer during the design phase was essential to properly plan and define niches and service shafts.
